Introducing the Very Little Known Workshop Series
The goal of the Very Little Known Master Class is to help go further with your work by completing a personal project focused on the areas you will photograph during the Master Class. To do so we offer you the opportunity to photograph locations that are both inspiring and little known. During the Master Class we also offer personalized guidance regarding the conception, the execution and the completion of your Master Class project.

The Very Little Known Master Class is a logical continuation of our Little Known Workshops. However the Little Known Master Class is different from the Little Known Workshops. If you attended a Little Known Workshop you photographed locations that were little known. By attending the Very Little Known Master Class you will photograph locations that are even lesser known or unknown. You will also focus on designing and working on completing a personal project during the Master Class.

Our goal is to provide you with an opportunity for learning, study, creativity and exploration. To reach this goal we have designed a new type of workshop whose purpose is to provide you privilege access to both instruction and locations. We are limiting the group size to three participants because we cannot provide this level of teaching in a large group workshop held in locations open to the general public. This can only be achieved with a small group in a controlled environment.

About the 2023 Very Little Known Abiquiu Master Class
The 2023 Master Class will take place in Abiquiu, New Mexico, a location made famous by Georgia O'Keeffe, Ansel Adams and many other artists who created some of their most well known works there.

We will stay in Abiquiu Inn during the entire duration of the Master Class. Not having to change hotels will give us more time for photography and instruction. The Abiquiu Inn is an ideal location because it provides an inspirational setting in a natural location and because the rooms are large, many of them being suites, therefore providing plenty of room for private meetings, print presentations, discussions and consulting sessions.

Kyaatataypi Night

The focus of the Very Little Known Master Class is the creation of a personal project. This project must feature photographs taken during the Master Class. It must also feature writing done during the Master Class.

You will need to bring examples of your current work to present and discuss during the Master Class. Instructions regarding which prints to bring will be emailed after you register for the Master Class.

Because the focus of the Master Class is a personal project Natalie and Alain will be available for informal consulting during the entire class. The goal of this consulting format is to give you the opportunity to explore your personal goals and Master Class project ideas.

A life changing event
Because of this focus the Master Class offers a life changing opportunity as well as the opening onto a new career and life path.

The Master Class is an inspirational event. The locations we photograph are selected for their inspirational qualities. In fact artistic inspiration will be the focus of the 2023 Abiquiu Master Class, We will visit and photograph locations that inspired many artists before us including Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams. We will visit and photograph Ghost Ranch, where both Adams and O'Keeffe stayed, the Chama River, Abiquiu Lake, the town of Abiquiu and the residence of Georgia O'Keeffe, the White Place, and much more.

The Master Class is a 6 day event. It consists of lectures, presentations, print and project reviews, project planning sessions and field photography sessions.

Travel and Lodging
We will meet in Abiquiu, New Mexico, where we will stay for the entire duration of the Master Class.

Access the locations is by paved and dirt road. A passenger car or an SUV are both suitable for these locations. A sports car is not recommended because it is not suitable for dirt roads.

The base registration fee for the different workshops we offer is the fee of our regular workshops. These are open to 12 participants and the fee is $1595. As the number of participants is reduced the registration fee increases proportionally. The Little Known workshops are open to 6 participants, half the number of participants in our regular workshops, so the registration fee doubles to $3200, The Very Little Known Master Class is open to 3 participants, one fourth the number of participants in our regular workshops, so the registration fee quadruples to $6400. About the 2018, 2019 and 2020 Very Little Known Master Classes
The 2018, 2019 and 2020 Master Classes were held (and will be held since the 2020 Master Class takes place in late March 2020) in Northern Arizona. We photographed five 40 acre parcels owned by Natalie and I in North-Eastern Arizona, a total of 200 acres. Two of these parcels are located just south of the Navajo Reservation and the other three are located on the edge of Petrified Forest National Park. These properties are roughly 25 miles apart. The Master Class takes place on these properties.

We purchased these five properties when we lived in Canyon de Chelly. They are all bare land and they all feature beautiful scenery. There are no man made structures on any of them, just natural features. We purchased them for their natural beauty and as a place to relax and get away from it all.

Some of our properties feature indian ruins and pieces of Native American pottery are found all over the place. Some feature petrified wood. Some feature mesas and other prominent natural features. Each of them is unique and each of them offers something different in regards to photographic possibilities. For these reasons each of them will inspire you in a unique and different way.

We go there regularly to photograph and spend time by ourselves. However it is only recently that we decided to lead a Master Class event there. We took this decision because we realized that these locations are ideal for an event that goes further than the Little Known Workshops. Because we structured it as a Master Class, and because it is held in North-Eastern Arizona, we call it the The Very Little Known North-Eastern Arizona Master Class.

During the 2018 and 2019 Master Classes we also visited other locations to which we have been granted access by the property owners. For example we photographed an extensive rock art site within a mile of one of our properties. It is accessible by car plus a short hike and we have permission from the owner. We also visited the Zuni reservation which is within 10 miles of one of our properties. Finally we also photographed other interesting landscapes such as areas in the vicinity of Petrified forest National Park accessible by roads not featured on National Park maps.

Below are photographs that I took on our five properties. These photographs will show you the photographic possibilities better than a written description can. We named these ourselves by giving a Hopi name to each of our properties. We will tell you the stories behind these names during the Master Class.:
