The Fine Art Printing Summit
The Fine Art Printing Summit is the Annual Event organized jointly by Uwe Steinmueller and myself. Now in its 6th year, the Summit is organized in a different location each year. The location is chosen for its photographic qualities.

This year we selected Bryce Canyon as the venue for the Summit.

We also invite a different guest speaker and teacher each year. This year our guest instructor was Tony Sweet.

The Summit lasts 4 days. Each day Uwe, Tony and I give presentations on printing, composition and other aspects of photography. These presentation cover both the artistic and the technical aspects of photography.

We also invite a number of Sponsors to the Summit. This year's sponsors included:
- Phase 1 Digital backs and Raw conversion software: represented by Kevin Raber)
- Hahnemuhle: provided Fine Art Papers
- HP: provided wide format printer, paper and inks to print Summit Participants photographs and also donated 2 HP printers that were raffled during the Summit
- WhiBal Color Balance Reference: presented by Michael Tape who donated 10 Whibal Sets that were raffled during the Summit
- Blurb: offered a free blurb book to all Summit participants. This book will feature 1 photograph from each of the participants and teachers.
- Adobe: donated free Lightroom 2.0 software packages that were raffled during the Summit
- Nik Software: donated 2 Nik Filters Software Packages that were raffled during the Summit

Below are photographs taken during the Summit and during the Field Workshop afterwards.

An audio recording of a discussion between myself, Natalie and Venus Kondos is also available in mp3 format. Venus attended this year's Summit and discusses her impressions of the event with Natalie and I. Click here to listen to this recording. You can also download it and listen to it in iTunes or in any mp3 player. This recording is 17 minutes long.

Thank you to all the participants who made this event successful. We look forward to seeing you again next year in Zion, Utah. If you did not join us this year we hope that you will be able to make it in 2009. Zion is one of the finest photographic locations anywhere and we are working on an exciting program for next year's event!

Prints made during the Summit

I wanted to thank Alain, Uwe, Tony and yourself for organizing this wonderful Fine Art print workshop and the very enjoyable and educational follow on field workshop. It was so packed with new information and ideas that I am still processing much of it and will work on learning the new skills for a long time now.

I enjoyed the Summit and Field workshop very much and got a lot out of both.  Every aspect was well planned, well organized and the instructors of the highest caliber.  I look forward to future summits and the possibility of one on one instruction.

Thanks and stay well,

The Vision Field Workshops after the Summit
Each year we organize field workshops after the Summit in nearby locations. This allows everyone to explore new photographic locations and combine field work time with Summit instruction. It also gives everyone an opportunity to practice what was taught during the Summit.

This year the field workshops took us to the Escalante area. We travelled from Bryce Canyon to Goblin Valley and saw some of the most stunning natural locations anywhere in an area that is still very little visited by tourists. We photographed in the Escalante area, on Boulder Mountain (going up to nearly 10,000 feet), in Capitol Reef National park and finally in Goblin Valley State Park.

Below are photographs of Summit participants working in the field as well as photographs taken by the participants themselves. Credits are provided under each photograph.
