I will be teaching an Advanced Fine Art Photography Marketing Seminar in Spring 2016. This will be a 2 day event and it will take place in Phoenix, Arizona.

I will be teaching marketing techniques not featured in my Marketing Books. These are techniques I started using after I wrote the book (the book was written in 2009, when dinosaurs still roamed the earth). I did not teach a marketing seminar for several years so I expect this one to fill out immediately.

This event is by invitation and places will be limited. If you are interested send me an email at: alain@beautiful-landscape.com with Marketing Seminar in the subject line. A special offer will be available for early registrations.

I will email you detailed information about the Advanced Seminar upon receipt of your email. This information will have a list of all the subjects I will cover during the Seminar.

October 13th
This page currently features another photograph from our Little Known Grand Canyon Monsoons workshop. This one was taken on a rainy and foggy morning. Bad weather often presents opportunities for great photographs as you most likely know already.

I had never seen the canyon like that before and as many of you know I spent literally years photographing the Grand Canyon because I used to sell my work there nearly year round for 5 years. Every trip offers different opportunities, but some are truly unique like this one.

This shows the importance of returning to the same locations over and over again because new opportunities present themselves in the most unexpected manner. It also shows the importance of being ready and willing no matter what the weather or other conditions might be. Being a professional is about 'getting the shot' as I often say. There's no going back to get the same weather pattern as is evident in this instance.

You can see more images created during this workshop in my Best of 2015 Online Portfolio.

October 3rd
The October Print of the Month is available with a significant discount compared to my regular pricing.

September 29th
I am hard at work on the photographs taken during the 2015 Little Known Grand Canyon Workshop. This was a particularly productive workshop, due to the Little Known locations we visited and the active monsoon weather which provided unique photographic opportunities (bad weather = good photographs as we know). I will have a portfolio of these images available soon.

This was a Little Known Workshop, meaning that it was limited to 6 participants and that we visited places we cannot go to with a large group. We will teach the same workshop next year however the 2016 Grand Canyon Monsoons workshop is already sold out. We do however have a couple seats available (not for long) for the 2016 Little Known Northern Navajoland Workshop. Contact us to join this workshop by emailing us at alain@beautiful-landscape.com or by calling us at 928-252-2466 (international) or 800-949-7983 (USA).

If you have never taken a workshop from us before we will need a sample of your work to see if your level is adequate for this advanced workshop. Or you may want to start by attending one of our regular workshops. Information on our workshops is available on our workshops page.

September 25th

A new podcast episode is available. This episode consists of an interview I did with Paul Griffith in September 2015. During this interview Paul and I discuss what motivated me to get started selling my work, the artistic aspects of photography, the business of photography, my fine art work, my workshops and more.

This is the 76th Episode of my free Podcast.

Natalie and I just returned from a personal trip to the Grand Canyon and Route 66 during which we visited the El Tovar Hotel. The El Tovar hotel is the location where I started selling my fine art photography in 1997. It is my 'business break' if you want to call it that and it is where I started to learn how to sell fine art photography.

In addition to being fun and relaxing this visit was enlightening and purposeful in many ways. I am working on a story which will be featured as an update to the Advanced Marketing Mastery Workshop on DVD/USB. Why? Because this story is directly related to running a fine art photography business, being successful, and not giving up on your dreams regardless of the difficulties you encounter along your path. This update will be announced here when it is added to the Mastery Workshops on DVD/USB site.

I featured a photograph of Antelope Canyon on the home page today because it is one of my all-time favorite places in the world. I am often asked what is my favorite photography location. I have many places that I like to photograph over and over again and I don't like to rank them, but if I have to the top one is Antelope Canyon because of the incredible light quality, shapes and colors that are found there.

Together these elements combine to offer what may be the most varied array of photographic opportunities that can be found in a single place. Not only that, but these possibilities change as the day goes by, as the seasons go by, and as the weather, the wind, and all the other variables that affect landscape photography changes.

If you have not been there yet, Antelope Canyon must be on your to-do bucket list! I always say that there are two phases in the life of a landscape photographer: before Antelope Canyon and after Antelope Canyon. If you are part of the first group, you need to go there. If you are part of the second group, like me, you need to go back there! I have been to Antelope Canyon well over a hundred times starting in 1986 and continuing to this day. Not only do I not tire of it, I find that I understand it better and better each time and that this understanding leads me to create new images each time, images that I have not done before.

Join us! We only have a couple seats left this spring for the 2015 Antelope Canyon Workshop, but one can be yours if you do it now:http://beautiful-landscape.com/Workshop-home.html

Today this page features a photograph of one of my all-time favorite areas: Navajoland. Natalie and I lived there for seven and a half years, and this experience changed our lives, for the better, from a personal, an artistic and a business perspective. We share the details of our story during our workshops, in particular the Navajoland Workshop during which we take you to our favorite locations, at the best time for the light, so that you too can experience the magical qualities of Navajoland and bring back photographs you will be proud to share with everyone.

Additionally, new photographs of Natalie and I were added today to the Biography Photographs online portfolio. These photographs were taken this past week at the Scottsdale car auctions.

The home page today features a photograph of Antelope Canyon, one of my all-time favorite locations. If you have not photographed it, it should be on your bucket list, and the best way to learn how to photograph it successfully it to join our Spring 2015 Antelope Canyon workshop for which we have one seat available.

It took me years to learn how to photograph Antelope Canyon, due to the complex lighting situation and the unique photographic challenges that it offers. I'll speed up the process for you so that you can learn in 5 days what took me years to figure out! Check out how on the Antelope Canyon Workshop Page.

Car auction week continues in Scottsdale Arizona. Yesterday we were a the Barrett-Jackson Car Auction in Scottsdale. Barrett-Jackson is the largest and the most well known car auction, even though it is not the one that brings the highest prices for auctioned vehicles. These are regularly achieved by RM, Goodings and Bonhams auction houses.

The photograph above was taken at Barrett-Jackson and shows the Lotus Type 56-3 'Wedge' turbine car that raced at the 1968 Indy 500 with Graham Hill at the wheel. The car was propelled by a turbine jet engine with the exhaust located on top of the car, right behind the driver's head. It qualified at 171,208 mph, a track record at the time. Unfortunately the car was forced to retire due to mechanical problems and did not finish the race. The car, now part of the Andy Granatelli turbine cars collection, was recently restaured by Clive Chapman and Vince Granatelli.

Although extremely competitive, Lotus' often encountered mechanical problems during races due Colin Chapman's combined use of cutting edge technology and drastic weight saving measures. For Chapman, a car that did not win was a waste of time, space and money. His approach was to achieve higher speed through weight reduction rather than through increased horsepower. The Type 70 turbine car is one of the few race cars in which Chapman used both weight reduction and horsepower increase to achieve maximum speed.

You can see additional recent car photographs on the 2015 Cars Portfolio page.

As many of you know automobiles are one of my passions. This week is car auction week in Scottsdale, Arizona, and we are going to most of the auctions and concours. Yesterday and today is the Arizona Concours d'Elegance at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel. The photograph here was taken yesterday by Natalie. I had always wanted to meet Sir Stirling Moss and he was very kind to agree to have his photograph taken with me and Norman Dewis, his co-pilot in the limited edition print they are holding (#5/125, now in my collection).

New Online Portfolios were added to the Portfolio Gallery section today. These are the first photographs published on this site in 2015.

As is customary with my publishing practice, the publication date reflects the year that these images were completed or published for the first time. Therefore some of these images may have been taken prior to 2015. However they were either completed or published for the first time this year.
