About Natalie and I

Natalie and I add value by providing you not only with 2 instructors, but also by complementing what each of us do. While I specialize on teaching photographic art and technique, with a focus on high standards, personal vision and placing technique at the service of art (nobody cares for technically perfect photos of boring concepts). Natalie focuses on the logistical aspects of the workshop, with the goal of creating a comfortable environment for everyone to learn and work in, without any worries about schedule, itinerary or other incidental aspects of this photography adventure.

Both Natalie and I are trained instructors with university degrees in teaching. Natalie has a BA in education and I have a BA, MA and PhD in addition to my training as a painter at the Academie des Beaux Arts in Paris (before moving to the United States). My graduate studies focused on visual theory which complimented my formal painting studies.

I started studying photography after studying painting which is unique in that I was trained first as a classical artist first and as a photographer second. My first classes in photography were at the American Center in Paris where I studied with Scott Mcleay. I later attended workshops with Al Weber and completed university level classes in photography.

I made the switch from film to digital photography in 1992, moving to a full digital approach that year except for image capture since digital cameras were primitive back then. I printed on an Iris printer and used a Mac Quadra 840AV. That same year I created the first digital photography course for the university I was in at the time (Michigan Technological University - MTU).

Natalie focuses her teaching on the traditional aspects of art, including color, composition, using a viewfinder and more. I focus my teaching on the technical and artistic aspects of photography, with a focus on helping you achieve a personal style and complete exciting projects.

We both have the same goal: to help you reach your goals.
